Donald Trump’s latest ultimatum to enforce an additional 100% tariff on products from China has been called a “classic case” of US double standards, as stated by the China’s leadership.

A Commerce Ministry spokesperson further commented that the nation could introduce its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the US President executes his pledge, noting that the country was “not afraid” of a looming commercial battle.

This past Friday, Donald Trump responded at the Chinese government’s action to reinforce its rules for foreign shipments of critical elements, accusing Beijing of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the world “hostage”.

Additionally, he vowed to cancel a arranged talks with China’s President Xi, which was set for a summit in Seoul in the coming weeks.

The former president’s remarks on that day unsettled financial markets, with the S&P 500 dropping nearly three percent, marking its steepest fall since April.

His comments renewed apprehensions of a trade conflict between the US and China.

Earlier this year, the respective governments had reached an agreement to eliminate significant levies on each other’s products, which had led to concerns of bilateral trade stopping between the two nations.
