Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
